Jeondong Cathedral, situated in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, is a cathedral erected on the site where Catholic believers were martyred during the Joseon Dynasty.
It served as a place of persecution against Catholics, where many martyrs lost their lives in the years 1791 during the reign of King Jeongjo and 1801 during the reign of King Sunjo. In honor of their sacrifices, a French priest began the construction of the cathedral in 1891, with construction starting in 1908 and completed in 1914.
Jeondong Cathedral transcends its religious significance to become a place commemorating the courage and sacrifice of the martyrs.✝️
